چکیده

Scrapings of intestinal mucosae from sarcoma (subcutaneous Yoshida-sarcoma) bearing rats were incubated, in vitro, with U-14C-glucose, comparing with those from normal rats. The resulting 14C-labelled products were fractionated into three carbohydrate fractions: polysaccharide-containing fraction (PS); carbohydrate fraction eluted with 50% aqueous ethanol from the charcoal-absorbed substances (Et); carbohydrate fraction eluted with aqueous ethanol-ammonia from the charcoal-absorbed substances (Et-Am). Monosaccharide components in these carbohydrate fractions were separated by paper chromatography after acidic hydrolysis and the radioactivities incorporated into these sugars were determined. The results showed that glucose-14C incorporated much more into monosac charide components of the three carbohydrate fractions from the sarcoma bearing animals than those from normal rats. No remarkable difference was found on the ratios of radioactivities incorporated into the fractions of glucosamine and galactosamine and also on the analyzed three monosaccharides contents between normal and the sarcoma-bearing conditions. The effects of sarcoma on the metabolism of hexosamine-containing carbohydrates were discussed.

[Methyl-14C]-choline incorporation into nude mice bearing tumor xenografts-correlation with [methyl-3H]-thymidine: A pilot study

Background: Many in vitro studies suggested that choline incorporation into many types of tumors is related to cell proliferation. Whether in vivo choline incorporation is related also to cell proliferation or not was my question. Therefore, the aim of this pilot study was to investigate the relationship of in vivo [methyl- 14C]-choline incorporation and in vivo [methyl-3H]- thymidine incorpora...

Glucose homeostasis in rats bearing a transplantable sarcoma.

The importance of gluconeogenesis for the maintenance of normoglycemia in rats bearing a transplantable sarcoma has been studied. Blood glucose concentrations remained within the normal fed range until the tumor/body weight ratio was greater than 0.15. In rats with tumor/body weight ratios be tween 0.31 and 0.50, the blood glucose was significantly lower than normal but was similar to blood glu...

Prenatal androgenization of lambs: II. Metabolism in adipose tissue and liver.

In vitro measurements of metabolism were made in subcutaneous and perirenal adipose tissue (AT) and liver from prenatally androgenized ewe lambs (TE), control ewe lambs (CE), and control wether lambs (CW). In adipose tissue slices, release of glycerol or fatty acids into the medium was not different among treatments, but glycerol release was greater (P < .01) from subcutaneous AT than from peri...

Originof IncreasedDeoxycytidineExcretionintoUrineof Rats Bearing YoshidaAscites Sarcoma1

The metabolism of deoxycytidine (dCyd) and dCyd nucleotides in Yoshida ascites sarcoma (YS) cells and the host rat liver was investigated with reference to the increased excretion of urinary dCyd. Incorporation of [14C]orotic acid into the livers of rats at the fifth day after the transplantation of YS cells, the time when the amount of excretion of dCyd in urine was near maximal, was 2 times h...

Relationship of food intake, body composition, and tumor growth to host metabolism in nongrowing mice with sarcoma.

A methylcholanthrene-induced sarcoma was transplanted in adult weight-stable mice. The relationship between sponta neous food intake and tumor growth, body composition, and host metabolism was studied. Tumor-bearing animals decreased their spontaneous food intake gradually from the day when the tumor became palpable (5 to 7 days) until reaching 50 to 60% of their initial intake 7 to 8 days late...
